From the exhibition BODY TO BODY: a dispute of the images, from photography to the live transmission
September 20th to December 30th 2017
In “The Resistance of the Body”, Letícia Ramos creates a controlled environment to test the reactions of a body to activities linked to the manifestations of streets. Photographing with cameras, dolls and models, the artist tests the throwing of objects, the impact of water jets and the communication by cell phones, simulating the visual repertoire of scientific studies, such as those made by the American engineers Frank and Lilian Gilbreth. Retaking the studies of the efficiency of bodies made after the Industrial Revolution to increase workers’ productivity, the work discusses the visual representation of violence and shows how images – some of them almost abstract – can serve as a form of real or symbolic oppression.
